Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions that come up most often.

Honestly, you won't know until you try it.

We are not here to tear down other brands. Many are doing great work. Zenbumi is here to do things with intention: sourcing carefully, curating for real use, and helping people choose matcha that fits how they actually drink or serve it.

Matcha is personal. What matters most is how it tastes, how it prepares, and whether it becomes something you want to come back to.

Try it. If it is not for you, the Sakina Guarantee has your back.

Start with how you plan to drink it.

If you want iced matcha, lattes, americanos, or creative drinks, start with the Daily Collection. If you want a richer matcha experience with deeper umami and complexity, explore the Kaizen Collection.

You can also check out our Matcha Buyer's Guide for help finding the right fit.

Because we want you to actually use your matcha, not ration it.

Our Daily Collection is offered in fuller pouches so you have more room to prepare, explore, and enjoy it often. For more limited matcha, like the Kaizen Collection, we may use smaller formats because those products are limited in nature and selected for a richer matcha experience.

For select Kaizen releases, larger formats may be available by request.

The Kaizen Collection is offered in smaller formats because these matcha are limited in nature and selected for a richer matcha experience. But if there is a matcha you want to spend more time with, reach out and we'll let you know what is possible.

More in every pouch means more than matcha.

It means more flavor, more support, more room to explore, and more meaningful experiences worth coming back to. It is our way of saying that what you receive should feel useful, generous, and intentional.

We deeply respect Japan's most established tea houses for the care, precision, and intention found in Japanese tea culture.

Our role is to curate Japanese matcha and tea for people and cafés that want drinks worth coming back to.

The goal is to honor what inspires us while helping more people enjoy better matcha and tea.

Not necessarily.

Some matcha is blended for balance, consistency, and use case. Some may be single-origin, cultivar-led, or selected for a more specific expression. We care less about using a label for show and more about whether the matcha tastes good, prepares well, and serves its purpose.

When cultivar, region, or harvest details matter, we include them on the product page.

"Ceremonial grade" is a common term, and it can be useful when describing matcha intended for drinking, but it is not a formal Japanese grading system.

So yes, it is. But instead of relying only on that label, we describe our matcha by origin, use case, harvest, flavor, and preparation style. Some Zenbumi matcha is selected for daily drinks and lattes. Some is better suited for straight preparation. The Kaizen Collection represents our most elevated matcha offerings.

If you are unsure where to start, begin with how you plan to drink it.

Yes, but not every matcha is meant for the same kind of latte.

Some matcha disappears in milk. Others hold their flavor, color, and structure better. Bold Matcha, Barista Matcha, and Premium Barista Matcha are selected with café-style drinks in mind.

For home lattes, start with Bold Matcha.

It can be, but it is best for people who already know they enjoy matcha and want to explore it more deeply.

If you are brand new and mostly want lattes, iced drinks, or an easy daily matcha, start with the Daily Collection. If you are ready to notice more nuance, depth, umami, and texture, the Kaizen Collection is a natural next step.

You do not need to be an expert. You just need to be curious enough to climb a little higher.

Try it. Love it. Or it's on us.

That is the Sakina Guarantee. If you are not satisfied with your order, reach out within the guarantee window and we will make it right through a refund, replacement, store credit, or guidance toward something that fits you better.

We do not want you stuck with matcha you do not enjoy.

No, our matcha and tea are conventionally grown.

We prioritize flavor, quality, sourcing, and preparation experience over an organic label. If we find an organic matcha or tea that meets our standards, we would be open to offering it.

Until then, we choose the matcha and tea we believe taste and perform best.

It depends on the product.

Zenbumi works with Japanese matcha and tea from regions selected for the product's purpose, flavor, and use case. For example, our Kaizen Collection is focused on Uji matcha, while other products may come from regions such as Shizuoka, Kagoshima, or other respected tea-growing areas in Japan.

Each product page will include the most relevant origin details.

Freshness matters.

Our matcha is selected, packed, and stored with freshness in mind so it arrives vibrant, aromatic, and ready to prepare. Once opened, we recommend keeping it sealed, cool, dry, and away from light, heat, and moisture.

For best flavor, use your matcha consistently after opening.

Keep it sealed, cool, dry, and away from sunlight.

After opening, close the pouch tightly and store it somewhere that avoids heat, humidity, and strong odors. If you refrigerate it, allow the pouch to come to room temperature before opening to help avoid condensation.

Caffeine varies by product, serving size, and preparation.

As a general guide, matcha contains about 20–45mg of caffeine per gram. A typical serving uses around 2g of powder, while lattes and stronger drinks may use more.

Matcha also contains L-theanine, which is one reason many people describe the energy as smoother than coffee.

If you are sensitive to caffeine, start with a smaller serving.

Great matcha takes a lot of care to produce.

The process can include shading, careful harvesting, tencha processing, milling, blending, packing, and proper storage. High-quality matcha also depends on limited agricultural supply and skilled producers.

A good pouch reflects more than powder. It reflects time, labor, and care.

Yes, we offer a small selection of tools and ceramics as they become available.

Our approach is simple: only carry what feels useful, beautiful, and aligned with better preparation. We would rather offer fewer pieces with purpose than a large collection that feels unnecessary.

Yes.

Zenbumi offers matcha for cafés, pop-ups, and emerging coffee shops that want better matcha drinks with consistency and care. If you are interested, submit a wholesale application and we will review your menu, goals, and product fit.

Approved wholesale ordering may be coordinated through our distribution partner, Queen City Coffee Roasters where applicable.

Yes, where it makes sense.

We can help cafés and pop-ups think through product selection, drink style, preparation standards, and matcha menu direction. We are still building this side of Zenbumi, but our goal is to support better matcha experiences, not just sell powder.

Not yet, but we are working toward better ways to help customers reorder consistently.

For now, we recommend joining our email list for restock updates, new releases, and early access to future offerings.
